The Malinauskas Government announced a strategic fuel reserve for South Australia today.

Sound familiar? Well, that’s because we called for it as an important part of our six pillar State Fuel Resilience Framework nearly four weeks ago.

It’s a good idea and I’m glad the government have finally got on board. Now they should consider the five other pillars within our framework so our State has the fuel security it needs now and into the future.

As South Australians suffer through this fuel crisis, the Malinauskas Government is still “actively considering” what to do next.

Our Fuel Security and Resilience Framework sets out practical measures to protect farmers, freight, hospitals and emergency services from global fuel disruptions, including a strategic diesel reserve, stronger on-site fuel storage for critical infrastructure, and support for regional industries. We moved our Framework in Parliament this week.

WA, Tasmania and even Victoria are acting on strategic reserves. South Australia cannot afford to sit back and hope Canberra fixes it.

That’s why we are getting on with it, even if the SA Government won’t.
